Enhancing water systems with cutting-edge technology
Goal number 6 of 17 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is “Clean Water and Sanitation”. South Africa is facing a water crisis primarily due to drought and poor water service delivery due to the ageing and deteriorated water infrastructure – a result of meagre maintenance and investment in infrastructure upgrades. With the national water supply forecast set to continue growing, access to water and sanitation services is required. To achieve this, South Africa needs to invest in the refurbishment and upgrade of the water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure. In cases where the plants are in critical condition, the existing infrastructure could be decommissioned, and green field water infrastructure could be enabled through PPPs.
